Bible Verses for Christmas Cards: 16 to Choose From
A verse in a Christmas card says what most of us struggle to put into our own words. Here are sixteen, grouped by what you want to say. Short ones fit a small card; the longer ones suit a letter or the inside of a family card.
The promise
Isaiah 9:6
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given... And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 7:14
"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."
Matthew 1:23
"...and they will call him Immanuel (which means 'God with us')."
The birth
Luke 2:10-11
"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."
Luke 2:14
"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests."
Luke 2:19
"But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."
Matthew 2:10
"When they saw the star, they were overjoyed."
The light
John 1:14
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us."
John 1:5
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
Isaiah 9:2
"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light."
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Blessings for anyone on your list
Numbers 6:24-26
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace."
Romans 15:13
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him."
Short enough for a small card
2 Corinthians 9:15
"Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!"
Luke 1:37
"For no word from God will ever fail."
Psalm 34:8
"Taste and see that the Lord is good."
A tip for writing them
Write the verse first, then one line of your own underneath. Something like "Thinking of you this Christmas" after Numbers 6:24-26 lands more warmly than the verse alone. For someone who does not share your faith, Luke 2:14 or Numbers 6:24-26 read as a blessing rather than a sermon.
Verses you can wear
Several of these sit behind our designs. John 1:5 is THRESHOLD and Psalm 34:8 is TABLE, both in our FRAME First Edition. John 3:16 is 3:16. If a verse means something to the person you are buying for, have a look in the Gift Shop.
Sealed in Him,
